Guy i hve a Dell latitude D, i hve install Windows 7 on that machine bt after the installatiion complited bt the sound card and vga drivers are missing on windows 7. I upgraded to Windows 7 anyway. Ensured the “Microsoft Audio” is automatic and started in the services – and even stopped and started it. For the sound card driver, see the post by jeepautx 2 posts above yours. Hope I am wrong. If you want the Dell diagnostics its better for you just to burn this to CD and boot to it:

People that have the biggest problems are d6110 one that bought a laptop with XP and are trying to install Windows 7, which is 2 generations down the line. Look at the Dell FTP drivers for release dates: I trashed that driver, downloaded driver R Hope I am wrong. I also uninstalled the hidden devices which appear in the device manager list for a few seconds.

For a Windows 7 and Office installation these updates can be close to aboutprobably more now.
